Spotlight on Swanton Welding: Meet Eric Zimmerman, a Welder and Shop Foreman
Welcome back to another installment of “Swanton Welding Is It’s People,” where we take a closer look at the individuals who make Swanton Welding & Machining Company the exceptional workplace it is. Today, we have the pleasure of introducing you to Eric Zimmerman, a dedicated member of our team who wears multiple hats as a welder and shop foreman. So, without further ado, let’s dive into Eric’s story.
Finding His Home at Swanton Welding
Eric Zimmerman’s journey with Swanton Welding spans an impressive 16 years. When asked what drew him to Swanton Welding, Eric shares a familiar story of transition and opportunity. “The previous place I worked for was downsizing, and it happened that a friend of mine knew people here at Swanton Welding, and we connected,” Eric explains. “16 years later, I’m still here,” he smiles.
What Keeps Him Coming Back
What keeps Eric returning day after day? “The people, probably,” he responds without hesitation. “We’re always busy, and when we need something, they get it. They take care of us,” Eric emphasizes. “They’ve fed my family for 16 years, so I appreciate it,” he adds gratefully.
A Day in the Life of Eric Zimmerman
Eric’s day-to-day routine at Swanton Welding involves organization, coordination, and hands-on work. “Usually, I get here, turn all the lights on, fire up the air compressor, do some crane checks, forklift checks, get everything ready for the guys, and see where they’re at on their jobs,” he explains.
Crafting Impressive Creations
One of the highlights of Eric’s role has been the opportunity to work on various projects, including building tanks for different customers. “Probably some of the tanks we build for different customers,” Eric shares when asked about the coolest things he’s ever built. “Sizes range from 13,000 gallons to 3,000 gallons. Some have structures around them, some don’t. So those are always interesting, keep you on your toes and paying attention,” he adds.
Life Beyond the Shop
When Eric isn’t busy at Swanton Welding, he enjoys spending time with his wife, especially now that they’re empty nesters. “My wife and I are empty nesters, so that’s fortunate,” Eric says with a smile. With eight grandkids between them, Eric’s life outside work is bustling with family activities and visits.
A Proud Veteran
In addition to his dedication to Swanton Welding, Eric is also a proud Army veteran. “Yep, I’m an Army veteran,” he proudly confirms.
