OVERVIEW

As the Heavy Fab East Bay Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing the welding operations within the Heavy Fab Shop Facility assigned department. You will be responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of welding work, scheduling and directing work activities, and managing a team of welders.

ROLE AND RESPONSILBILITIES

  • The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
  • Oversee welding activities and ensure compliance with safety regulations
  • Participate in training and onboarding new employees as outlined in the orientation/onboarding program.
  • Participate in all programs, policies, and initiatives as assigned.
  • Understand the safety features of the machines and tooling to ensure they are operating without compromise to safety systems.
  • Follows safety protocol, including wearing heat resistant gloves, flame resistant (FR) clothing, protective masks, and safety toed footwear.
  • Read, understand, and follow work instructions and engineering blueprints
  • Review and interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine welding requirements.
  • Supervise and manage a team of welders, and/or fabricators providing guidance and feedback as needed.
  • Plans details of work order procedures; gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job.
  • Schedule and Coordinate welding work based on project timelines and demands.
  • Visually inspect weld quality and use other quality inspection equipment to confirm compliance to part specifications.
  • Perform quality control checks on welding work to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
  • Ability to fabricate and construct metal and steel components as needed to support the weld team.
  • Assesses equipment, structures, materials, and job specifications for appropriate welding positions and methods.
  • Monitor inventory of welding consumables and equipment, and order replacements or make project manager aware when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of welding activities and produce reports as needed.
  • Ability to specialize in manufacturing and assembling equipment or devices, ensuring every product’s quality and efficiency.
  • Maintain welding fixtures and tooling in a suitable working order
  • Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and work area
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AN EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Willingness to test and pass welder qualification test
  • Proven leadership and communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of tools used in welding including designs, uses, maintenance and repair
  • Previous fabrication experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to read and understand engineering blueprints
  • Knowledge based and working background in MIG welding of carbon and stainless steel products
  • Must be able to complete a manual welding test. Welds are judged on functionality and esthetics.
  • Advance knowledge of measuring devices such as, calipers, scales, gauges and micrometers
  • Must be able to perform accurate mathematical calculations (add, subtract, multiply and divide)
  • Ability to work with fractions and decimals
  • A work history of compliance to safety, quality, and productivity standards
  • A work history that supports a good to excellent attendance record
  • Strong mechanical abilities
  • Fast learner and able to adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Detail oriented approach to daily work activities
  • Able to work well in a team-oriented work environment
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • At least 2 years’ fabrication experience
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand Work Orders.

  • Lifting, Carrying up to 50 pounds (Occasionally)
  • Temperatures (Occasionally)

ADDITIONAL NOTES

  • May require overtime with little notice before or after normal work hours or weekends.
