Lamella Style Inclined Plate Clarifier
Swanton Welding was contracted to fabricate a Lamella Style Inclined Plate Clarifier that will ship to Mt. Holly, NC, when completed. This fabrication will serve as a wastewater clarifier for the facility in North Carolina.
Swanton began this project in June of 2024, and it is currently ongoing. When completed, we expect the fully assembled clarifier to be 31’ long, 11’ wide, and 19’4” high, weighing approximately 32,000 pounds.
Lamella clarifiers are a type of wastewater clarifier designed to remove particulates from liquids. Most Lamella clarifiers have a surface loading rate of 10-25 m/h, with the retention time in the clarifier usually around 20 minutes or less.
Lamella clarifiers are more common than conventional clarifiers at industrial sites and are ideal for applications where the solids passing through are variable, but the solids passing through are fine.
Lamella clarifier design consists of a series of inclined plates inside a vessel, allowing the untreated source water to enter at the top and flow down a channel underneath the inclined plates. The solids will settle onto the plates and eventually fall to the bottom.
Swanton Welding Company fabricated this clarifier primarily from carbon steel, with structural members, sheet, plate, piping, and pipe fixtures. We used laser cutting, press braking, machining, wire welding, hydro testing, and shop assembly to fabricate this project.
We used SP10 Near White Abrasive Blast, Tneme-Liner Series 61 base coat, and Amercoat 240 top coat for finishing. One of this client’s more unique project needs was the full shop assembly and fit-up, which will happen before transport to North Carolina.
In addition, due to the nature of the project, hydro testing was essential, and our inspection and testing team is taking the time to ensure that this project will meet or exceed all the standards for treating wastewater.
